Hanky Head

If you have a baby girl, you know how important those silly baby headbands are. While you can find them in nearly every grocery and convenience store, cute, understated and interesting headbands under $20 are nearly impossible to find. One day, I was rifling through my delicates drawer and I stumbled upon a vintage handkerchief. At the time we had NO money, not even enough to buy a cheap little pack of headbands, and Esmé was getting to the age where I wanted to start dressing her up a little more when we would go out. Not only because it’s adorable, but also because it helps avoid the question (or supposition) of whether she’s a boy or girl. As necessity is the mother of invention… Continue Reading…

Esmé at 12 weeks.

Today Esmé is officially THREE MONTHS OLD! Happy three month birthday, sweetest little peach. I love you more and more with each passing day.

The other day I was waiting in line at a coffee shop (with Esmé in the sling, naturally) and a woman walking by said “well she just looks like an accessory the way you’re wearing her!”. I think it’s probably true that I have a little too much fun dressing her sometimes, but seriously, babies are the very best accessories. Is it bad that she already has four pairs of sunglasses?

I absolutely cannot believe that she is almost three months old. Everyday her personality peeks out a tiny bit more, and with each passing moment I’m blown over by how much she’s changing and growing. That was why I liked this picture…she’s usually pretty chatty and outgoing (…for an 11 week old) but sometimes she get shy, and it looks like this. A little smile hidden behind her perfectly dimpled hands.

Esmé at 10 weeks.

On week 10, we had Esmé dedicated. It was such a special day. We had a small ceremony in our apartment with just a few very close friends and family. Micah’s mom lovingly crocheted this beautiful gown and bonnet for this occasion, and it fit Esmé perfectly. I don’t cry very much, especially not about things that are super important to me, but I found myself welling up as Micah’s dad was giving the homily. I don’t know that I understood the magnitude of what that dedication meant until we were there in the middle of it, with all of our loved ones gathered around, and our sweet baby in my husband’s arms.

After it was over, I felt such a sense of relief knowing she was now completely and fully in the hands of Jesus (not that she ever wasn’t), and then we were able to relax and drink coffee with those closest to us. It was a wonderful day, and certainly one I will never forget.
