Dressing the Bump :: Stripes and Tulle

November 21, 2013

What do you wear to an outside wedding when you’re nearly seven months pregnant? A tulle skirt, of course! Neither of these are maternity purchases…I’m becoming a pro at making my regular clothes work for my new shape. And it’s way more fun than I thought it would be! I bought this skirt when I was still at Philanthropy, and I love it. It’s one of those pieces that instantly makes you feel fancy and super girly. I paired it with my favorite striped top, a vintage belt, and heels appropriate for walking around in the grass. It was a truly magical evening, and one of the most beautiful weddings I’ve ever attended. I don’t have any pictures from the wedding, but my friend Eden was the photographer, so maybe if she blogs about it I’ll post a link!

Dressing the Bump :: Lace and Leather Boots

October 31, 2013

I love that I actually look pregnant now! No more mistaking the growing baby for a growing beer gut. We took these in our back yard, and I’m ashamed to say we’ve been absolutely terrible about taking belly pictures through the process. As long as we have a few from the beginning, middle and end, we’ll be good…right?! I hope so.

This dress was a pre-maternity purchase, and it was always a little big so it fits me perfectly now! Without the belt it would look like a mumu, as would most loose-fitting things right now, so this thrifted Etienne Aigner belt has been getting plenty of wear these days! I wore this to attend an outdoor event in East Nashville called the Red Barn Roundup. It’s hosted in this fabulous couple’s backyard, and has amazing live music, plenty of food, and lots to drink. They have it about once a month, and we’ll definitely be going back! I love Nashville.

Dressing the Bump :: Polka Dot Skirt

October 14, 2013

Sometimes the best solutions are the easiest. I bought this skirt at the thrift store a few weeks ago. It was a dress originally, and all I had to was carefully cut the top off, and voila! It was an instant elastic waisted skirt. The tank was another pre-pregnancy purchase, and it’s almost to the point of not fitting anymore, but it worked great for tucking in! I’ve slowed down on wearing heels in my pregnancy, though they do instantly make me feel a million times better. So I pull them out on days when I’m feeling my frumpiest.

Starring in my pictures are Bowser (the white dog) and Flower (the black dog). We were house and pet sitting for some friends awhile ago, and they just wanted to be part of the action. Who was I to say no?

Dressing the Bump :: Patterned Skirts and Tied Shirts

October 2, 2013

Dressing my halfway pregnant body has been more enjoyable than frustrating so far, and I’m trying to bask in the glow of this phase while it lasts because I’m sure soon enough I’ll be over absolutely everything. But for now, it’s great experimenting with new or old pieces and wearing them in ways I haven’t had the opportunity to before. It’s maybe slightly silly how many times I’ve tied T-shirts at the waist, or put belts above my growing belly, but hey! You’ve got to work with what you have.

This skirt is another item I received at the modeling shoot for Amanda Valentine (as mentioned here in more detail) and I’ve already worn it more times than I care to admit, each time receiving wonderful compliments. It goes with a million things, and is insanely comfortable. And I’m not even kidding when I tell you that the day before I got this skirt, I had been literally dreaming of a bold black and white patterned skirt. And there it was! Before I had a baby in my belly, I wore it with tight tanks tucked in to show off the detail at the waist, but now I can’t quite zip it up all the way, so the back needs to be covered…you get used to things not quite closing all the way at this point 😉

Hurry Up, Fall!

August 28, 2013

Towards the end of August, I always start to get anxious for Fall to arrive, and my anticipation was only made worse when I picked up this leather jacket last week. I fell in love with it months ago when I was in Vegas placing orders for the store I was working at. It was a bit above my price range, but I figured if I couldn’t stop thinking about it, I would order one for myself when we got back home. You only live once, right?

Well…you can guess what happened next. I’ve waited patiently for the past 6 months for it to arrive, and now that it’s here and still 90 degrees, I have to wait even longer to start wearing it! That’s ok. It hasn’t stopped me from playing around with items in my closet…er, suitcase…for the time being.

I can’t wait to pair it with all of my soft lace pieces, every single dress I own, torn up jeans, and, well…basically everything.

Here are a few of the images that are inspiring my Fall wardrobe:

A white sundress, sneakers, red lips and sunnies? Done.

Pretty pleated dress and black booties…got it.

High-waisted skirt and pop of color? Sure!

Distressed jeans, cardigan, cropped T and bandana? Yes please!

So what about you? What are you most excited about wearing when the days cool down?
